The internet is going headless
There’s a Mac Mini under my desk without a screen, keyboard, or mouse. It does have an AI agent on it that does stuff while I sleep and I remote in when I need to check on something.
That’s what headless means. The computer’s running. I just don’t have to sit in front of it.
The internet is next.
For thirty years, going on the internet meant going somewhere. You opened a website, figured out where they put the button, and clicked it. I think we’re about to spend a lot less time doing that. For a lot of things, you’ll just say what you want and your AI will go get it done.
The websites can all still be there. Your AI might go through a direct connection (an MCP: Model Context Protocol ) or open a browser and click around. Either way, the big shift is where you start. If I ask my AI to find me a house, it can go through a bunch of sites before I see a single listing. By the time I open one, something else has already helped decide what’s worth my attention. That’s a huge f’ing shift for an internet built around getting you to show up.
Now do a real estate deal that way
Picture a buyer saying, “Three bedrooms, under my budget, and I don’t want to spend my Saturdays fixing the house.” In the version I’m imagining, their AI assistant comes back with a shortlist. It can ask about showing times and pull together the disclosures before the buyer has opened a single portal. The buyer and their real estate agent still decide what gets sent, signed, or agreed to.
The portal era was about being found. In the next one, a buyer might see three houses because their AI already went through fifty. What would it need to know about yours to put it in those three?
We’re already seeing the first version of this on the brokerage tools side. On October 8, eXp Realty announced “MCP First, AI of Choice” at eXpcon in Salt Lake City. MCP is a standard way for AI assistants to connect to other software.
If you’re an eXp agent, you can authorize the AI you already use, like Claude or ChatGPT, to pull information from your eXp business. Production numbers, training progress, CRM records where the integration supports it. You can ask about that stuff in the chat you already have open. eXp says this is the first piece of a bigger rebuild called AGNT OS, which it’s targeting for early 2027.
Their CEO called MCP the front door and AGNT OS the whole house. Think about what that means. An eXp agent can start in the same chat they used to figure out dinner and ask about their production numbers. The first stop used to be the brokerage website. Now it can be whatever AI they already have open.
Who picks what you see?
I work in advertising, so here’s the part I keep coming back to. If I ask an assistant to buy paper towels and it shows me two options, how did it pick those two? And if somebody paid to be one of them, will it tell me?
Now take those three houses. Did my assistant leave one out because it misunderstood my budget? Could it even see all fifty? Did somebody pay to get one of those three spots? I’d want to be able to ask and see what it actually checked.
Kevin Rose made this point on The Random Show with Tim Ferriss. You ask for towels. Your AI tells you what can get there today and what costs less if you can wait until tomorrow. I can see myself doing that. I don’t have a favorite website for buying towels. I just need towels.
Show me the receipt
“Get me to Chicago next month. Cheap, aisle seat, no red-eye.” I’d love to say that once and have my assistant watch the fares. I’d also like to know if it booked something, what card it used, and whether I’m flying out of an airport two hours from my house.
Same thing in real estate, with a lot more on the line. If an assistant says the disclosures are ready, I want to know which version it found and what still needs a human to review. “Handled it” is a hell of a thing to hear when you’re trying to close on Friday.
Give me a receipt I can read in ten seconds. What did I ask for? What did you check? What actually happened? What still needs my approval?
If you want to try this, you can skip the part where you put a computer under your desk. I use Muse every day. Instinct is another one you can try if you’d rather text an assistant in iMessage.
Try Meta Muse. If you redeem my code 7NAVUS in Settings within 48 hours of joining, we each get 1 billion Muse tokens.
Give it one small thing you were already going to do today. See how far it gets before you have to open a tab.
The internet is going headless. Get your parents ready.
